This immersive installation is part of the broader community development project at Brooklyn Basin, a revitalized waterfront area that celebrates the rich cultural and industrial heritage of the region.
The flip panels display a graphic timeline of significant events in the area’s history. These panels allow visitors to interact with the exhibit by flipping through layers of historical content—from the ancient Ohlone civilization to the industrial expansion of the late 19th century. The panels were constructed with durable materials and engineered for smooth operation, giving users a tactile, hands-on experience that made the history feel more personal and engaging. We fabricated a series of metal shipping boats suspended from the ceiling. These boats not only serve as an iconic visual reference to the terminal’s history as a shipping hub, but they also symbolize the connection between the past and the present. Gizmo also installed 70-inch LED backlit professional-grade screens. The video content was tailored to highlight the transformation of the 9th Avenue Terminal and its impact on the growth of Oakland and California as a whole.
