Gizmo fabricated Michael Arcega’s benches to sit on Broadway Street.
Michael Arcega was commissioned by San Francisco Arts Commission & the Department of Public Works. He chose Gizmo to fabricate and installed these benches along Broadway.
Michael Arcega’s Cloud Benches transform everyday urban seating into a poetic encounter with public art. Inspired by the ephemeral forms of clouds, the installation introduces a playful and contemplative element to the streetscape, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and interact. These functional sculptures draw inspiration from cloud motifs found in traditional Chinese art and architecture in San Francisco. The cyclical nature of clouds, water, and rain yields vitality and prosperity, evoking renewal and reinvigoration. Clouds also exist in the space between Earth and the heavens, connecting us to realms beyond our own.
Gizmo Art Production, Inc. partnered closely with Arcega to bring these sculptural benches to life. Each piece required precision fabrication to capture the artist’s signature balance of whimsy and sophistication while ensuring durability and safety for public use. Our team handled every stage of the project—from conceptual prototyping to final installation—ensuring the benches seamlessly integrate into their environment while maintaining artistic integrity.
The Cloud Benches exemplify the potential of functional art to enhance public spaces. By merging design innovation with expert fabrication, Gizmo Art Production, Inc. helped turn Arcega’s vision into a tangible, enduring experience for the San Francisco community.
