Dilo! The Re-Mix Project – Bringing a Museum Experience to Life in Puerto Rico
When museums create immersive experiences, sometimes the fabrication process extends far beyond the walls of our San Francisco shop.
For the exhibition Dilo! The Re-Mix Project, by artist Julio Cesar Morales, Gizmo Art Production traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where our team fabricated a key exhibition environment on-site. The exhibit celebrated the life and legacy of Dámaso Pérez Prado, the Cuban-born bandleader, pianist, and composer whose revolutionary musical style introduced the Mambo to Havana’s vibrant nightclub scene during the 1940s before captivating audiences around the world.
The exhibition’s title, Dilo!, was inspired by Pérez Prado’s unmistakable trademark exclamation—”¡Dilo!”—which he famously used to cue his orchestra through changes in rhythm, tempo, and energy during performances. That same spirit of movement and innovation became a central theme of the exhibition experience.
Working on location in Puerto Rico, Gizmo fabricated the exhibit room that would immerse visitors in Pérez Prado’s remarkable musical legacy. Fabricating on-site required careful planning, close coordination, and the ability to adapt to the unique challenges that come with building an exhibition hundreds of miles from our home shop. Every detail had to come together seamlessly to support the exhibit’s storytelling while meeting museum-quality standards for durability and finish.
Projects like Dilo! The Re-Mix Project demonstrate Gizmo’s ability to deliver museum-quality fabrication wherever a project takes us. Whether working in our San Francisco facility or on location across the country, we partner with museums, designers, and cultural institutions to transform creative concepts into engaging visitor experiences.
From public art installations to immersive museum exhibitions, Gizmo is proud to help bring stories to life through exceptional craftsmanship and technical execution.
