Knowing the piece was to live out in the middle of the great Redwood forest, Gizmo was in charge of adapting the way we built and installed this monument to the Forever Forests League. Gizmo met the needs of the artwork by running countless etching tests with our CNC machinery, painting and staining tests for the infill of the letter coloring, and chemically treating panels of steel to rust to our partner’s satisfaction. The etching process had to be carefully curated around when we bent and rusted the metal itself, and Gizmo seamlessly achieved the perfect natural finish while including around a hundred donor names into the piece. At the top of the sculpture sits a carefully crafted figure 8 that dictates the contour of the piece itself.
