Our jurors were incredibly impressed with your explanation of the goals of the project and the successful integration of the artwork into the space. In addition, the collaborative process between all the parties involved is an outstanding achievement.
Our mission for the awards is to celebrate projects that demonstrate the most successful integration of commissioned art into interior, architectural, and public spaces. GIZMO HONORED AS FINALIST IN CODAWARDS TOP 100 PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS OF 2023
San Francisco, CA, July 23, 2023 – Gizmo, San Francisco’s renowned art fabrication,
engineering, and installation company today announced that two of their recent installations
have been named as finalists in the global 2023 CODAawards for outstanding public art
projects. The winners will be selected by a public vote through July 31 and announced at the

Since 1996, Gizmo has helped artists, design firms, museums, and companies realize their
visions. Applying a shared passion for art with technical and design wizardry, our team has
shepherded countless projects to success. Working with a great variety of materials,
environments, timelines, and budgets, Gizmo has worked with leading artists worldwide and
enabled them to explore new ways to fulfill their creative ideas.
The two Gizmo projects selected by the CODAawards are both located in the San Francisco
Bay Area. The first is a sculpture by San Francisco-based artist, Taraneh Hemami called Ever
Green. Ever Green, a sculptural tree with tessellated canopies made of mirrored steel and
iridescent glass has become an icon at the corner of 13th and Franklin Street in downtown
Oakland, California. The tree honors Oakland's past and its namesake, as the many attributes
of the oak tree an emblem of strength, endurance and survival. Using similar material to the
building it adorns, the tree invites the passerby under its multiple canopies referencing the
coming together of the many diverse communities that claim Oakland as home. The canopy’s
multitude of green glasses lend their colors to the pavement during the day and are lit all
through the night, while their tessellated mirrored surfaces reflect the surrounding buildings,
bringing the skies above the newly erected 40-story tower closer to the grounds.
The second sculpture is by the well-known artist, Blessing Hancock called Unum. “Unum”,
meaning “oneness” or “togetherness”, is a large-scale undulating metal sculpture incorporating
32 languages in the form of words and phrases woven seamlessly in the stainless steel. Sitting
proudly in the Old Town Square of Santa Rosa, California, Unum utilizes the personal narratives
submitted by members of the local community to showcase the diversity of people living in the
area. Unum has already become the centerpiece of Santa Rosa, and will continue to serve as a
symbol of unity amongst its diverse communities.
