Partnering with world renown architecture firm Olson Kundig and National Design Award winner landscape firm Surface Designs, Gizmo Art Production, Inc. will be designing and building the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s new “Canopy Climber”, an exciting outdoor play space for older children.
In the area near what is known as the “Tot Spot” (an outdoor play space for toddlers) Gizmo plans on building 3 individual pods that mimic Eucalyptus tree seeds. These pods will sit 14 and a half feet off the ground and will have the ability for children to climb up and inside of them. These pods are called “Gum Nuts” and are connected by a series of bridges and ladders for climbing. These Gum Nuts are designed to give children between the ages of 5-10 a sense of scale and space. This new exploratory space will be utilizing the natural landscape as each pod will be climbable, have netting, and will react to wind and touch with sound and sway.
This will be Gizmo’s return trip working with the Bay Area Discovery Museum, after being a part of their “Tot Spot” in 2003.
