From May 10th to September 29, 2013, the California Academy of Sciences presents its latest project, “Built for Speed.” Located around the Academy’s central piazza, the exhibit explores how some of the oceans’ fastest animals and vessels have evolved for speed and long distance ocean travel. Visitors can watch museum staff assemble an orca skeleton, or get a closer look at the 45 foot catamaran wing mast from defending America’s Cup Champions, ORACLE TEAM USA.
Gizmo originally worked with the Academy in 2011 on the “Earthquake,” preparedness exhibit still on display. Partnering with CAS designers, Gizmo created an interactive exhibit to demonstrate the piston-like tail muscles of the tuna fish, a magnet wall allowing visitors to assemble fish parts, and lesson in conservation showing the damaging effects of plastic in seawater.
Using bathysphere like video cones, custom exhibit furniture, and glass artifact cases, Gizmo created a unique deep sea experience for this globally recognized institution.
