Breast Cancer Memorial, Golden Gate Park
Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS)
Located in the heart of Golden Gate Park, the Breast Cancer Memorial stands as a powerful and compassionate tribute—the first of its kind in the nation—honoring lives lost to breast cancer while amplifying hope, resilience, and community.
Created in partnership with Bay Area Young Survivors (BAYS), this memorial goes beyond remembrance. It is a place of reflection and connection, designed to acknowledge the unique journeys of those impacted by breast cancer, particularly young survivors and the families who carry their stories forward.
The memorial’s thoughtful design invites visitors to pause, reflect, and remember. Set within the natural beauty of the park, it offers a quiet sanctuary where grief and healing coexist. Each element speaks to loss, strength, and the enduring bonds between those we’ve lost and those who continue to advocate, survive, and support one another.
As a national first, this memorial marks a significant step in public recognition of breast cancer’s impact—transforming awareness into a lasting, physical space for collective memory. It stands not only as a reminder of lives lost, but also as a call to compassion, education, and continued advocacy.
This project reflects the mission of BAYS: to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone, and that every story—especially those of young survivors—is seen, heard, and honored.
