Renowned California conceptual and installation artist David Ireland approached Gizmo’s founder Mark Sabatino with the idea for a sculpture consisting of a ceiling-mounted, suspended fiberglass angel, rotating over a circle of cement statuary. Based on a conversation and a napkin sketch, Mark – then working as Chief Preparator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts – helped Ireland realize his vision, from locating components, to tackling engineering challenges, to testing, fabricating, and installing the piece. Ireland’s “Angel-Go-Round” was realized and shortly after Gizmo was born.
Since that time, Gizmo has helped artists, design firms, museums, and companies realize their visions. Applying a shared passion for art with technical and design wizardry, our team has shepherded countless projects to success for over 20 years. Gizmo’s services have exceeded fabrication and installation and has grown to include interactive design, prototyping, project management, transportation, and storage of public art.
